Keeping Kosher While In Chengdu

Kosher Grocery Shopping

There are a few chain stores in Chengdu that carry products from around the world that are Kosher. Many of them bear popular Kosher symbols such as the OU or OK. Otherwise they can be found on the list of kosher products from that country.

Items that can be found kosher throughout the year include: peanut butter, jam, coffee, tea, soy milk, ketchup, mayonnaise, pasta, cereal, Crisco shortening, baking powder, baking soda, dry yeast, rice, BBQ sauce, canned goods, oatmeal, granola bars, oil, mustard, spices, tuna, cake mix, potato chips, laffy taffys, raisins, peanuts, pickles, flour, sugar, salt etc.

These items can be found in the international section at the Metro, the Ole and at Sabrina’s County Shoppe. As well as Supermarkets in the International Malls. As well you can buy select Kosher items on Taobao. One of our community members compiled a list, we thank him, however we want to point out that the dairy items are not Chalov Yisroel and the baked goods are not Pas Yisroel,  click here for the list

In general: Fruits and vegetables bought throughout China should be washed very well before eating, as well as only bottled water should be used for drinking.

There are no Vegetarian restaurants in China that comply to Kashrut standards. There may indeed be non-kosher fat in a food that is labeled ‘strictly vegetarian. 'Many travelers have unfortunately learned this the hard way.
